I'm a Potty Mouth Garden Blogger

I just discovered this hilarious tool thanks to Naomi Dunford on Twitter. It rates the cuss level of your blog. Since I've been known to drop an f-bomb or two, I thought I'd try it out and see how I did, and how I compared to some of my favorite garden bloggers.

My cuss level: 4.2%

Heavy Petal: 0.8%

Cold Climate Gardening: 0.1%

May Dreams Gardens: 0.2%

The Compost Bin: 0.1%

A Study in Contrasts: 0.8%


Hmm. I don't know whether to feel proud or ashamed that I swear so much more than you guys. For the record, the only blog I checked that came close was Garden Rant, where the ladies have managed an impressive 4%.

I'm #1! :-)

I tested at 0.8%. It must have been the time I said "durn raccoons".

Or maybe it was something someone left in a comment. I'd find this more interesting if I knew the criteria--the list of words they were testing for--and more specific results--posts that were flagged.

Well I'm embarrassed by my low score. I'm going to have to start cussing like a sailor if I want to be cool like you. :-)

I think that other than using the word "crap" for the first time this week, I really don't curse on my blog ever. I do say "pissed off" occasionally though. Does that count?

I checked my auxilliary blog where I keep my hoe collection post and it got a 1.9%. Still nowhere near Colleen! And my grandma's diary blog scored 0%. That's good, as I don't think I ever heard her cuss.

We will beat you! You've thrown the gauntlet, and we will rise to the challenge. .2% is not a heavy lift.

Seriously, Susan and I have often discussed how we'd like to cuss more, but feel the gardening blog world is (a good thing) much kinder and gentler in that way than the rest of the blogs we know.

Some blogs I read would easily rise to 35%-40.

Yep, a few of the ones I read are well in that range. Naomi Dunford, who was the one who introduced me to the cuss-o-meter on twitter, has a rating of 99.5% on her blog, ittybiz.com.

I don't swear as often as I'd like. If I did, you Ranters wouldn't have a chance of catching me :-)

The garden blog world is much gentler than the rest of the blogosphere. That is a good thing, but there's nothing wrong with shaking things up a tiny bit, either ;-)

I'm at 3.2% and I have to say, I'm shocked. I purposely censor myself so I don't put off garden blog readers who seem to be a little more civilized conversants than I am on a day to day basis. That and my parents read my blog and though he may be a motherf---er, my dad is pretty conservative.
