Hi Colleen,

Thanks for this great review. I've been eyeing this book and wondering if it was worth reading a whole darn book about pumpkins. Now I'll pick it up for the next business trip. Ugh. Off I go on Sunday. No fun trips to botanical gardens this time. But at least I can read about pumpkins now!

Hi Robin,

It's definitely a good read. I think it's slated to come out on September 4th. Perfect timing, really, just in time for all of us to start seeing pumpkins showing up in our neighborhoods for fall decorating.

Thanks for stopping by!

I also got a copy of the book to read in advance of the release but I've only read up to the part where they have planted the seeds. Don't tell me how it ends! I'm enjoying it, it's a good read, and I don't want the ending spoiled.

Yes, I do think a lot of us gardeners "get it", we understand, we are close to taking off on an obsession of our own, be it pumpkins, roses, orchids, bonsai, gardening hoes, you name it!

Great review, well-written, by the way.

Thanks, Carol! Oh, it only gets better as the book goes on. Once she got to August, I was totally unable to put the book down. I'm going to the Michigan State Fair this weekend, and I know I'll have even more respect for the giant pumpkins than I usually have :-)

I never thought I would be interested in a book on growing giant pumpkins, but your review has me intrigued. I'll see if I can borrow a copy from my local libray or order it through the consortium when it comes out.

Great review of a book that sounds interesting. Another one to add to my list of gardening related reading.
