Kids love to paint, why not paint your pumpkins orange?
:-)

LOL Now there's an idea! I might do that :-)

I think your little green pumpkin is cute. And I love the idea of the Franken-pumpkin.

Sorry you didn't get any orange ones though.

This post made me laugh so hard. I had a similar experience with pumpkins in the regular veggie garden...they just set fruit this week. Think they'll be ready in time for Halloween? Perhaps they too will remain green. One can only hope...

Pam: Thanks...I guess it's kind of cute. I can be sure that no one else on our street will have a frankenpumpkin anyway :-)

Katie: Maybe you'll be lucky. You're in California. My pumpkin growing season would have ended next month anyway, most likely. I stopped by your blog, btw...very nice! I'll definitely be visiting again.

I used to grow pumpkins. They ate my lawn every year. Which is not a bad thing! I think you harvested your pumpkin too early. If you had left it on the vine longer, it would have turned orange.

Green is my favorite color, I love your green pumpkin. Who says pumpkins have to be orange?

Oldroses: I think it would have, too. The bottom is a nice, bright orange. I cut it off the vine because the vine was dying, and I'd rather have a green pumpkin than a dead pumpkin. I left one of my other ones on, just to see, and it turned to mush on me. I have one, very small green pumpkin still holding on, although I don't have much hope for it :-)

Carol: I love green too. Maybe I got too caught up in the whole "pumpkins must be orange" thinking. It's not such a bad little pumpkin (now I'm sounding like Linus from "A Charlie Brown Christmas"----"It's not such a bad little tree, really....it just needs a little love."---best Christmas movie ever!)

Colleen,

I feel your pain. Really. I violated rules 3 and 4 last year and had issues with one pumpkin in particular. I would add rule number 7 : Never trim vines when you're cranky. I learned that the hard way last summer. http://gorhamgarden.blogspot.com/2006/08/why-you-should-never-cut-hair-or-vines.html

Your little green guy is very cute though and it may orange up some yet. Stranger things have happened. I wonder how green pumpkin pie tastes...

At least you got a pumpkin, all I got was a vine and a bee nest.
